Smoked on the Porter

This is another beer style that I have never had the pleasure to enjoy. I love a good Rauchbier so why wouldn't I like a Smoked Porter? With great success from the CRP3 I just put in the keg, I will be reusing the yeast just like I did with the Pinot Sour that we are doing. I wont have time till next week to brew this, just thought I would go ahead and get this up so I don't forget.

Update 1.21.2010: Last night brewing went really well. Missed the gravity a bit, but thats fine. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that I didn't really smell much smoke. The finished wort, tasted very smoky, with a slight hint of smoke in the nose. Beer tasted good, but I will wait for the final product.

Update 1.25.2010: Fermentation has finished and the FG reads 1.018. Beers smells awesome, with the smoke not overpowering anything. With the smoke I smell some chocolate and roasted barley. Taste is equally as good right now with some firm bitterness, smoked ham, and chocolate. I need to cold crash this and move it over to the keg.

Update 4.2.2010: Beer received a score of 36 in the 2010 PSBO. Here is the score sheet.

Update 5.17.2010: Beer received a score of 38 and placed 3rd in the South Regional of the NHC. Here is the score sheet.
